A full day of running in Workington, featuring a free 1K kids fun run, 5K, 10K and half marathon races. All races finish on the Cricket Ground.

Free kids run

Registration and race numbers: Registration is at Workington Cricket Club. Race numbers will be issued at race registration. Registration opens at 8:00 for all races and closes at 14:00. Half marathon registration closes at 9:15 so runners have time to reach the start at Workington Hall.

General race information

Courses

  • All race courses are the same as last year.
  • All races finish on the Cricket Ground.
  • The courses have been accurately measured and approved by UKA.
  • There will be a lead bike and sweeper runner for all races.
  • The 10K and 5K start on Black Path near the football stadium, around 400m from the Cricket Club.

Entries

  • All races can be entered via the Timing Up North website.
  • Entries on the day are available subject to a maximum entry of 200 runners in each race.
  • A £2 discount is available to runners entering both the 5K and 10K online.
  • Entries on the day are subject to an additional £3.

  1. Start at Workington Hall and run out via Stainburn towards Clifton.
  2. Turn left down Greengarth and take a sharp left onto the small path through the houses.
  3. Turn right onto the path leading to Great Clifton village hall, then left onto the track down to the river.
  4. Cross the bridge, turn left via a short track to a lane, then turn right towards Camerton.
  5. Sharp left at Camerton and climb until joining the cycle path on the right at around the 4 mile point.
  6. Turn right on the cycle path and run towards Broughton Moor to the marked and marshalled turn-around point. Runners should keep right on this section.
  7. Return along the cycle path, passing Seaton before turning right at the triangle fork towards the Nature Reserve.
  8. Cross the A596 pedestrian bridge, turn left and follow the cycle path onto Northside Road.
  9. Take the right-hand path from Northside Road towards Navvies Bridge.
  10. Turn left to follow the cycle path towards the triangle fork, then turn left towards the Nature Reserve to complete another lap of the loop.
  11. On the final lap, run along Northside Road to the Seaton roundabout before turning right to rejoin the cycle path towards Navvies Bridge.
  12. Cross Navvies Bridge, turn left down towards Black Path, then turn sharp right into the Cricket Ground and run clockwise around the field to finish in front of the pavilion.

  1. Start on Black Path near the football grounds, about 300m from the Cricket Club.
  2. Run towards the Cricket Club entrance, then take a sharp right up towards the cycle path.
  3. Cross Navvies Bridge and head north-west along Northside Road.
  4. Turn north onto the cycle path.
  5. Pass through the 5K turn-around point and continue along the cycle path.
  6. Turn right up and over the A596 pedestrian bridge, then head south-east past the Nature Reserve.
  7. At the triangle fork in the cycle path, turn north towards Seaton to the marshalled turning point.
  8. Return on the cycle path towards Navvies Bridge, then turn left down onto Black Path.
  9. Turn sharp right from Black Path into the Cricket Ground and run clockwise around the field to finish in front of the pavilion.

  1. Start on Black Path near the football grounds and run towards the Cricket Club entrance.
  2. Take a sharp right up towards the cycle path.
  3. Cross Navvies Bridge and head north-west along Northside Road.
  4. Turn north onto the cycle path to the marshalled turn-around point running parallel to the railway line.
  5. Return along Northside Road to the Seaton roundabout and join the cycle path by turning right on the bridge.
  6. Continue along the cycle path, passing through the Parkrun start, then turn left to cross Navvies Bridge.
  7. Turn right from Black Path into the Cricket Ground and run clockwise around the field to finish in front of the pavilion.
14:30 start

1K free kids fun run

Free entry No map currently required Children and families encouraged
Fun run note: Adults accompanying a child do not need to enter the 1K or run with a number, unless a medal is specifically required. This helps allow more children to take part.
  1. The race starts outside the Cricket Club grounds.
  2. There will be a warm-up before the start.
  3. Run along Black Path towards the Football Stadium.
  4. Turn around by the cone and marshal.
  5. Run back towards the Cricket Club.
  6. Enter the Cricket Club and run around the field to the finish.

Prizes, medals & facilities

Prizes and race rewards

  • Presentations will take place throughout the day once runners have completed each race.
  • Half marathon and 10K: prizes for the first 3 male and female finishers, plus 5-year vet categories.
  • The first male and female half marathon runners will receive a trophy.
  • 5K: prizes for the first 3 male and female finishers, plus juniors.
  • Half marathon, 10K and 5K runners receive medals, certificates and drawstring bags.

Facilities

  • Half marathon and 10K runners receive vouchers for free refreshments on completion of their race.
  • Free massages will be available to all runners throughout the day.
  • Showers, toilets and changing rooms are available.
  • A bar and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
  • Stalls and children’s entertainment will be available.

Parking

There will be no parking allowed in the Cricket Ground unless prior permission has been granted by organisers. Parking is available nearby at the Sports Centre and multi-storey car park. Signage and marshals will direct runners to registration and race starts. There is also free parking at the Railway Station.

Safety and changes

  • Race briefings will take place before each race.
  • First aid will be provided by XL Team.
  • Bone conduction sports headphones are the only headphones that are approved for use.
  • Withdrawals and number swaps are allowed until 25 July 2026.
  • Refunds may be subject to a processing charge. After 25 July, no refunds or change of runner can be guaranteed.
